Society of Dyers & Colourists; UK felicitates Acknowledged Dr. P.R. Roy with Gold Medal in 2016. Dr PR Roy has been awarded the prestigious 2016 Gold Medal of Society of Dyers & Colourists; UK (Incorporated by Royal Charter) for his prolonged and distinguished service to the textile Industry.
He is the 3rd Indian who has been recognised with this prestigious award in the Textile world.
Dr P R Roy is notably known as the “Father of Denim in India” and has spearheaded the development of Indigo wool, silk, cotton indigo denim and brought the denim revolution in India. He was instrumental in identification of business opportunities and setting up of business in association with McKenzie USA. He took up the challenge of formulating, negotiating and finalizing strategic alliances with leading American and European textile companies. Dr. Roy was the former Group Chief Executive (Textiles) of Arvind Mills Ltd and Former National President of The Textile Association (India). He has over four decades of rich experience in industry, research & education.
Dr Roy is currently advising various textile mills to shape up future directions extending technical and managerial support. He has been a guest faculty at IIM Ahmedabad, NIFT and also an expert member (Textiles) of 9th Five Year Plan and Govt. of Gujarat.
Dr Roy is the Patron Member of Textile Alumni Association (WB) and his invaluable contribution for this association could make this professional body stronger proficient and useful.
